New grant programme could help SME nurseries adapt and diversify

London-based nurseries with less than 250 employees have the opportunity to apply for grants of between £1,000 to £5,000.

Applications open on 16 October for new funding designed to support SME London businesses meet the challenges of trading through Covid-19.

Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), eligible SMEs can access grants of between £1,000 to £5,000.

Eligible applicants will have one calendar month, from the date of the grant offer letter, to accept the offer and purchase and receive the support/items that the grant has been approved for and submit a grant payment claim.

Once a complete claim has been submitted and approved, complete with evidence, payment will be made to the SME within five working days.

To be eligible for funding, businesses must have fewer than 250 employees and less than a €50m turnover, or balance sheet of €43m.

At the London Early Years Foundation, chief executive June O'Sullivan says: 'Like many businesses, the early years sector has been through a very tough year. This much welcomed grant will help with the challenge of leading settings during the pandemic so they remain sustainable while also managing the additional operational issues from Covid-19 such as keeping premises safe for children and providing enough staff to ensure the high quality care and learning children need more than ever in these exceptional times.'
